WASHINGTON, DC (November 1, 2017): Health IT Now – a broad-based coalition of patient groups, provider organizations, employers, and payers supporting health information technology to improve patient outcomes – submitted comments in response to the Department of Veterans Affairs proposed rule, Authority of Health Care Providers to Practice Telehealth, which allows VA telehealth providers to more easily administer care across state lines.
The proposed rule mirrors the bipartisan, bicameral VETS Act; legislation previously endorsed by Health IT Now and slated for consideration in the House Veterans Affairs Committee tomorrow.
Health IT Now Executive Director Joel White released the following statement:
“Improving access to care for our nation’s heroes deserves a multi-pronged approach, which is why Health IT Now fully supports both the VA proposed rule, as well as the VETS Act that would permanently enshrine this directive into law,” said HITN Executive Director Joel White. “This policy solution will be instrumental in breaking down geographic barriers that, for too long, have prevented our veterans from getting the health care services they need when and where they need it. We call upon the administration to quickly finalize this rule as proposed and urge members of the House Veterans Affairs Committee to support the VETS Act when it is brought up for a vote tomorrow. The administration and Congress must work in concert to harness the full potential of telehealth and bring VA health care into the 21st Century.”
